LB Bentley supports ‘Inspire an Engineer’ Initiatives

LB Bentley Ltd have in the past supported education careers initiatives at local schools and colleges, but as 2018 has been dedicated as the ‘Year of Engineering’ by the Government we have been more active with our involvement.

To help drive forward the ‘Inspire and Engineer’ initiative LB Bentley have taken part in a number of recent events with the aim of encouraging children and young adults to consider engineering as a possible future career.

When attending a local primary school ‘Bisley Blue Coat’ to take part in their STEM activities, the class of year 5 and year 6 children were fascinated to hear about what is involved in ‘Mechanical Engineering’ and learn about the subsea oil and gas industry.  Lots of questions were asked during the presentation and many of them built their own subsea systems out of Meccano and Lego in the practical session afterwards.

LB Bentley recently attended careers events at two local secondary schools Marling School and Thomas Keble School.  Aimed at older children and young adults these careers events gave the students the opportunity to ask employers about their industry and find out the necessary career pathways, whether it is through university or the apprenticeship route.

We also attended ‘Festomane’ (the festival of manufacturing and engineering).  This Apprenticeship and careers show provided the local employers a platform to reach out to many young adults considering a future in engineering.  It was an opportunity to promote the Apprenticeship Scheme we offer across both sites, LB Bentley Ltd in Stroud and Seven Glocon Ltd in Gloucester.

In the future we will continue to support local education initiatives, as we truly believe that by doing so this will help to raise the profile of engineering, not just in our local area, but throughout the UK.
